If you have children, let them have good memories all throughout their childhood. Let them fun and enjoy their childhood stage. One way to let them experience good fun is to bond with them in nature. You can do that by going on a horse riding activity with them. But be sure to choose Ireland’s single native breed, the Connemara Horse.
The historical development of the Connemara is unclear. Even some of its historical accounts are based on legends and fables. It was said that the first breed was recognized in the Connemara region in County Galway in western Ireland. That’s where it got its name. The landscape in this region is not good. Irish farmers’ during this time had large families and could only afford one pony.
To earn an additional income, they owned mares so they can sell its offspring. Even if the mare is pregnant, she’s still required to pull a plow or a cart that’s filled with rocks, people, etc. Because of this, the breed was enduring and strong. Others also believed that the breed came from the Scandinavian ponies that the Vikings have brought to Ireland. Another account was that it might have come from the Irish-Hobby which is now extinct. Another source is from a legend which says the breed came from galleons of the Spanish Armada, the Andalusian horses were set loose.
These horses were believed to have helped in the development of the Connemara horses. It took so many years for the Connemara to be declared an “official breed”. Through the first publication of the Connemara Pony Stud Book in 1926, the pony breeds finally became official. It was organized by thirty local men out of concern for the mares. They even formed the Connemara Pony Breeders Society in order to promote best for these mares.
Connemaras are good tempered, intelligent, strong and hardy but are extremely good mounts for children. They have an excellent jumping ability. They have short backs with slanted, muscular croup, great hindquarters, slanted and long shoulders, and small ears. They stand 13 to 14.2 hands high, and are usually grey, but bay, black, brown, dun, and occasionally roan, chestnut and palomino in color.
Today, Connemaras are known as sports ponies and they’re good for both children and adults who want to ride them. They are also best at show jumping, dressage, eventing and endurance riding.Advertise Your Horse For Sale
