If you’re more of the adventurous and contemporary type of person, it’s better if you try riding in the Danish Warmblood horses, which hails from Denmark. They are known to be Denmark’s modern sport horses and are not as common in the United States as compared to other breeds. The Danish Warmblood is Denmark’s best!

Horse breeding in Denmark already existed since the 1300’s. Then, in the middle of the 1800’s, Holstein, a Danish Duchy established breeding farms. Then, the modern Holstein and Fredericksberg warm bloods were established. However, it was only in the middle 20th-century, particularly in the 1960’s, when a stud book was opened. They set up a breeding program in 1962 so they could produce a horse that could keep pace with the sport horses from other countries. Swedish, Trakehner, Hanoverian, Holstein and Polish stallions were carefully chosen and were bred with different local mares. The Danes observed strict rules and criteria so that only the best horses can be registered in the stud book.

The program was sensational and they now a fine-looking national riding horse carrying its own name, which they called, Danish Warmblood (Dansk Varmblod). Aside from abiding by stringent selection rules, the Danes succeeded in their breeding programs because horse breeding has always and will always be a part of the Danish tradition. As breeders, they are also prudent and willing to invest in bloodlines that are proven to produce the best breeds in the world and have always been interested to combine their traditional know-how with scientific innovations. This is clearly shown in the breeding events which are held in Denamrk every year. Among these are the Elite Mare Show in the late summer and the stallion grading in March. Presently, these horses are uncommon in the United States. But the breed gained promotions through the establishment of the North American Danish Warmblood Association in 2001.

Standing anywhere from 16.2 to 17 hands high, the Danish Warmblood horses are daring, high-spirited, and an outstanding show jumping and dressage horse. They come in all solid colors such as black, chestnut, bay and dark brown and they have very good legs. They are greatly recognized for their excellent stamina, speed, fee action and good temperament.

Danish Warmblood horses are used for unequaled performances in the cross country and they are excellent show jumpers and under saddle.
