True bred horses are the only ones registered. However, breeds found to be good contributors to the bloodline of those already registered horses can also be registered. Since the registration process is typified thorough open studbook policy, studbook selection and focus on the breeding purpose, which is equestrian sports. In an open studbook policy animals can be registered even though the parents have not been registered. Through studbook selection, breeders can select those animals which they wish their own animals to be bred with, wherein the unhealthy and or undesirable animals are alleviated.

Warmblooded horses are famous with Olympic sports like dressage and others. European breeders are breeding horses for the purpose of competition.
